Virtuous Reality: Becoming the Ideal Woman- What's Your Legacy
Imagine viewing your own funeral many years from now. You are sitting at the back, undetected, as those closest to you come up one by one to say a few words about your life. Your husband, children, grandchildren, pastor, a co-worker, and a neighbor come up to summarize in paragraphs what your life was all about. What will they say? Will you be remembered for donating large sums of money to worthy causes? Will you be remembered as being a friend to the friendless? Will you be remembered for your tireless devotion to the local church?
Your entire life has pointed to this very moment, and before your eyes, your legacy beings to unfold. Qualities you possessed on earth are molded into stories and memories and handed down to future generations. Your entire existence is summed up with words describing who you were as a per4son, what you accomplished, and the legacy you left behind. You begin to weep as you realize that your life is but a speck on the time line of eternity. Do you weep with tears of joy or regret as this truth begins to sink in? Would you do things differently if given another chance?
Fortunately, it is not too late. As college women, it is time to think about the legacy you will someday leave behind. Who you are today will impact who you are tomorrow. Are you in pursuit of developing qualities that will someday mod a legacy you can be proud of? Or, will you climb this ladder called life only to discover when you get to the top that it was leaning against the wrong wall?
You will only get one shot at this life. This is not a dress rehearsal. Believe it or not, the legacy you leave behind can impact your family's lineage for generations to come. Many women have failed to take this responsibility seriously. In a pleasure-seeking world that stresses instant gratification, little thought is given to developing qualities that will impact our own future, much less future generations.
As women, God has given us in His Word a standard to strive for during our brief time on earth. The Proverbs 31 woman possessed inner qualities that transcend from generation to generation. She is described as virtuous and noble and her worth is far above rubies. She is considered the ideal wife and mother, women have been intimidated by this woman and her many qualities. Will someone be able to look back on my life and claim I was a virtuous woman, a woman of noble character? Few women will be honored with this title. Will you be one of them? The choice is yours.
