UPDATE: Congratulations to our winners, Anita Von Canon and Kerri Pearson!
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matt. 11:28)
“What is your greatest risk?” I was asked this question a couple of years ago in a small group at a women’s leadership gathering. While many of the women in my group shared their dreams to change the world, I realized in that moment that my greatest risk was not to do more, serve more, or prove more, but rather, to do less. The true challenge for me was to slow down and rest. I had forgotten how to be still and it was taking a toll on my soul.
Maybe you can relate. We blame it on our calendars. Or social media. Or the constant barrage of information and choices that bombard us each day. Our lives are full, but oddly, our souls are empty. In Jeremiah 6:16, the Lord says, “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” Our lives were never meant to be this crazy. Our souls were never meant to be this overwhelmed. You don’t have to take the same frenzied path when standing at the crossroads.
My newest book, Rest Assured (releasing November 17th) was written during a recovery period that came on the heels of a long season of burnout. Basically, I staged an intervention on my over-committed, over-connected, and over-burdened life and rediscovered rest for my weary soul. I chose a different path. And you can too.
Divided into two parts, Rest Assured tackles common enemies of rest in Part 1 (the intervention):
- The Badge of Busyness
- The Exhausting Pursuit of Happiness
- Tethered Souls
- Worried Sick
In Part 2, it offers the prescription (the recovery plan):
- Prioritize the One Thing Needed: Time for God
- Create Room to Breathe: Time for Solitude
- Give Yourself a Break: Time for Leisure
- Pay It Forward: Time for Others
Is your soul weary?
If so, weigh in and comment below with your biggest enemy when it comes to a soul at rest. On September 28th, we will draw two winners and each one will receive a goody basket containing a few things to help you in your quest for rest. In addition, you will receive an advanced reader’s copy of Rest Assured to get a sneak peek of the recovery plan!
