UPDATE: We have winners! Congratulations to Christy P. who won the note-taker’s Bible and Taryn T. who won the Between Pocket Bible!!

Oh wow. It’s been over a week since I’ve posted anything and I do apologize to those of you who may have stopped by. It’s been a crazy week as I’ve been scrambling to get things done before my two oldest college kids arrive in town tomorrow for Spring Break! I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THEM. My daughter texted me a couple of days ago asking if I wanted to go shopping while she’s in town. Seriously? I couldn’t figure out why she was asking me such a no-brainer question, but then I figured it out. What she was really asking was, “Mom, can we go shopping together and YOU PAY FOR IT?” And because I’ve missed the girl-child so much AND I just so happen to love to shop, the answer is YES. It’s a date!

One of the things I’ve been working on this week is a new message for some upcoming events. I would love to get your insight on the topic and thought it would make a great give-away. If you help me out, I will enter you into a drawing for this:

The HCSB Interactive Notetaker’s Bible! Click here to take a look at this beauty! It has journaling lines on each page to jot down notes!

Picture 3If you would like to be entered in a drawing to win this Bible, all you need to do is reply with a first name, age, favorite chick flick title, and the scene or line in the movie that made your heart swell. Please, please include a brief description of the line or scene rather than just the title of the movie as this will greatly help me in my research. (Your email address will not be posted when you comment and only used to contact you if you win.)

But, wait — that’s not all! If you have a daughter between the ages of 5-12 (or know a girl in this age range), I would love to know what her favorite scene is from any of the animated or Disney type chick flicks. Is it the classic Cinderella/Prince Charming kiss? Or maybe a Wesley/Buttercup scene from one of my all-time favorites: The Princess Bride?

Picture 4For her help, I will enter her into a drawing for the Between Pocket Bible (perfect for grade school or tween girls)! You can comment with her answer in your same entry or separately. We will draw for two winners, a mom and a girl and each entry will be treated separately. For the girls, I would need to know the same thing: First name, age, name of movie, and description of the scene or movie line. If you have a daughter in this age range, this would also provide for a great talking point, so take advantage of it. Don’t assume she’s too young to have experienced a heart-skipping moment while watching these movies. You might be surprised by her answer!

We will draw for our winners one week from today. Good luck and thanks for your help!

And P.S: Guess what movie my daughter and I will be watching next week when she’s home for Spring Break? Can you believe the child has never seen Pride and Prejudice?!! I sent her the montage above to prepare her in advance….

  1. Deborah says:

Favorite movie is The Notebook. Favorite quote is Noah to Allie, “I want all of you, forever, you and me, every day.” My 11-year-old daughter’s favorite chick flick is Another Cinderella Story. Pick us, pick us, please!

  2. Laura says:

    Laura – 39
Favorite Chick Flick – hard to pick one, but guess I will go with You’ve Got Mail with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks
Favorite Line – What will NY152 say today, I wonder. I turn on my computer. I wait impatiently as it connects. I go online, and my breath catches in my chest until I hear three little words: You’ve got mail. I hear nothing. Not even a sound on the streets of New York, just the beating of my own heart. I have mail. From you
    My Daughter Meighan is 10
and we love to watch it together, she loves the Bookstore she owns in the movie. Her favorite Disney chick flick, The Princess Diaries all of them :)

  3. Bobbie Jo says:

    Bobbie Jo-38
My favorite all time chick flick is “Gone With the Wind” I don’t have a favorite line because truth be told I LOVE the whole thing.

  4. katie says:

It’s so cliche, but I love Steel Magnolias anyway! The part at the end where all of the friends are there together at Easter, after Shelby has died and her little boy is hunting Easter eggs is my favorite…it shows how important female friendships are.

  5. katie says:

    I’m so sorry, I forgot…my age is…37!

  6. Shayla says:

    A Walk to Remember:
Jamie: You’re acting like a crazy person, what’s going on?
Landon: Right now, you’re straddling the state line.
    Jamie: OK…
Landon: You’re in two places at once.

This is the part in the movie where it is so evident how much Landon loves Jamie. He is trying to helo her cross off the things on her bucket list, and one of her things is “Be in two places at once”

its beautiful to me because he loves HER who SHE is and is showing his love by the doing the little things that mean the most!!!

    :)

  7. Ana says:

    Age 44
Too many chic flick favorites to list, but besides all the usual suspects or lines that I hold dear coming from our dear Jane Austen, I would have to say a line from the movie “Fools Rush In” when Matthew Perry says to Salma Hayek, “You are everything I never knew I always wanted.”

My 5 year old loves the entire Kitt Kittredge movie and my 8 year old loves Flicka, when Katie finds out that Flicka is alive and okay.

Wow! So many good ones but i have a great scene and a great line to share. Great scene is from “A Walk in the Clouds” with Keanu Reeves. The scene is when his love interest and her family have to keep the grapes on their vineyard warm so they don’t freeze. She shows him how to use these giant “arm fans” to keep the heat down.

The great line is from “The Last of the Mohicans”. I know, it is not the first movie that comes to mind when you think “romantic chic flick” but the underlying love story is great. OK-the line takes place after Daniel Day Lewis rescues his love interest from the bad guys and realizes he has to leave her in order to save her life. They are hiding in a cave behind a waterfall. He grabs her, waterfall pounding down in the background and says “stay alive. I will find you. No matter how long it takes, I will find you”.

  9. Sharyl says:

    Age 29
My favorite chick flick is “Sarah Plain and Tall” This is a story set in the early 1900s. The husband’s wife passed away and he sent for someone to come and help with the kids. Conversations began through letters and the lady came to help with the house and kids. She also wanted to learn to work beside the guy. In the end, it is not only a love story between the lady and man, but also between the kids. One of the reasons I really like it, is because of the role communication plays a role.

My daughter is 5 and since she was 2 her all time favorite movie is Snow White. Her favorite part is when the prince kisses Snow White to wake her up. She likes to play this scene out with her little brother!!!

  10. Sherri says:

    Age 45 Daughter Age 8
You posted the clip from my fav movie. My fav line is “I lo–i lov–i love you…” My daughters even list this movie as their fav also because they’ve seen it SO many times :)

  11. Susie Wankerl says:

Susie. Age 56. I love Princess Bride and there are many lines from that movie but I am going to say Jane Eyre, because this is a movie that few people might consider and I have always loved the book, and the movie (several versions). Such a portrait of character and of love. Here’s one line. Jane: “We are truly devoted, my Edward and I; our hearts beat as one; our happiness is complete.”
And another, from Edward Rochester: “Sometimes I have the strangest feeling about you. Especially when you are near me as you are now. It feels as though I had a string tied here under my left rib where my heart is, tightly knotted to you in a similar fashion. And when you go to Ireland, with all that distance between us, I am afraid that this cord will be snapped, and I shall bleed inwardly.”

  12. Angela says:

Age 35. Steel Magnolias. Sally field says of her daughter dying, “I was here when she came into this world and I was here when she drifted out.” makes me cry every time.

And my 2 daughters say this:

Emily, age 10: Aladdin, when Aladdin & Jasmine fly on the magic carpet together.

Tiffany, age 8: Pocahontas, when Pocahontas saves John Smith.

  13. Karyn says:

42 years old – Favorite Chick Flick (more from my Mom’s generation than mine) “Tammy and the Bachelor.” The best line in the movie is spoken by Tammy (Debbie Reynolds) as she looks out of her window and thinks about her one true love…and his garden. Here it is: “Just think, that same moon that’s shinin’ on me right now, is shinin’ down on Pete’s tomatoes.” Was convinced as a young single woman (now married 18 years) that same moon that was shinin’ on me, was shinin on “him” somewhere.

  14. Jessica says:

OK, I am 39 and you already nailed my all time favorite. It is Princess Bride when Princess Buttercup and Wesley tumble head over heels, literally. As Buttercup finally comes to a stop at the bottom of the hill and they reach out to find each other,we hear,

Westley: Can you move at all?
Buttercup: Move? You’re alive. If you want I can fly.
Westley: I told you I would always come for you. Why didn’t you wait for me?
    Buttercup: Well… you were dead.
Westley: Death cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay it for a while.
Buttercup: I will never doubt again.
Westley: There will never be a need. (Kiss)

My daughter, Selah’s (5), favorite movie is Cinderella when she meets her fairy godmother and her dream is fulfilled.

  15. Kim says:

Hello? You’ve got it on the screen. That scene from Pride & Prejudice gets me every time. “I love, love love you.” Why isn’t there music in real life? even after 20 years of marriage I ask my husband that!

  16. wanda says:

First of all…..I love this Bible! It was used to decorate the tables last summer at the Southern Bapt Convention’s Pastor’s wives luncheon. I wanted it, bad!

Second…I have so many favorite chick movies. But, I’ll just use one that I quote almost on a weekly basis with my family & friends.

    Wanda
    43
    Indiana

    MOVIE: The Princess Bride
Quote: “Have fun storming the castle!”

I love this scene because the old couple are so funny. The dire straits of the situation put the character in a bit of a frenzy and that’s what life is like…somedays!

So…when anyone is rushing around and stressed a little…I yell out!
    Have fun storming the castle!!
And then we all laugh! Cause it’s not worth it to STRESS OUT!

  17. Kecia says:

    Daugher #1:
Jessica, my 12-year-old, likes Love Comes Softly when Clark comes after Marty and asks her to stay with him.

  18. Kecia says:

    Daughter #2:
Mikayla, my 10-year-old, likes “Sleeping Beauty”. Her favorite part is when Aurora is in the forest, dancing with the animals (and eventually the prince) while the fairies are making her dress and cake.

  19. Kecia says:

And I’m Kecia, age 43, and MY favorite chick-flick moment…is very hard to pick! But I remember going to see “Beaches” with my best friend who had been my college roommate for 3 years. I was about to graduate and she was about to get married. When the one friend dies and Bette’s character is telling her daughter all about her, we boo-hooed, but not near as much as when we got back to our room. We hugged each other and cried and said we’d always be friends, forever. Now, almost (gulp) 21 years later, she serves the Lord with her husband and 4 kids in Africa, while I live in south Arkansas with my husband and 3 kids, and we’re still like sisters and love each other’s families like our own. sniff

  20. Christine says:

Christine (36) I love the scene in The Notebook when she finally realizes that is her story he is telling her and when he reads the page in the book “Read me this story & I’ll come back to you”.

    My daughters:
Ana (12) Likes the Legally Blonde movie when Elle tries to get everyone to write a nice thing about eachother and put it in the “Snap Cup”. Even though Elle follows her ex-boyfriend to college, she finds out she is strong enough to stand on her own & then falls in love with a guy that likes her for who she is.

Zoe (6) Loves the part in Cinderella when the mice sing, “Cinderelly, Cinderelly, all day long it’s Cinderelly…” At least that how she sings it. She likes that the mice care for her and make her a dress. And of course, dancing with the Prince!

  21. Katie says:

Age 23. While You Were Sleeping. I think this was the first chick flick I ever watched and produced a temporary infatuation with Bil Pullman and permanent infatuation with Sandra Bullock! Still love her!! lol! My favorite moment is probably when Sandra Bullock asks younger brother (Pullman)if there is any reason why she shouldn’t marry his older brother. There is a huge, pregnant silence as they stare at each other. And then he says “No, I can’t.” And they say goodnight. It’s the most incredible moment, packed with conflict, desire, and loyalty. Sigh…I think I’ll go watch the movie….

  22. Kim says:

Daughter: Kaylee, 11 yrs old. She likes “Princess Diaries II”.
Her favorite scene is when Mia is being taught how to use a fan properly.
As she’s changing her expressions while flipping the fan from side to side like a theater mask. :) :( :) :( Funny scene!

  23. Melanie says:

My daughter (age 9) loved the Disney movie “The Princess Diaries” and her favorite part is at the end when Princess Mia finds true love (such as it is) and she knows it’s real love, because when she kisses him her “foot pops”

  24. Michelle says:

Michelle, 27, and my favorite is You’ve Got Mail, I love when they finally meet in the park and realize it’s each other and one if them says, I really hoped it was you.

  25. Sandy (44) says:

I have several chick flicks that I love and even more movies. However, my all time favorite is Pride and Predjudice. I love it when Bingley is trying to propose to Elizabeth’s older sister and Mr. Darcy is role playing with him. But, you cannot out do the famous scene near the end where he and she finally meet of the same mind and heart…. where Darcy once again, proclaims his love for Elizabeth. The music is beautiful, the scenery as well….”I love, love, love you.” FINALLY… and then her family is shocked by it all, but even more, her father. Her father’s love for Lizzy is most evident and sweet when she speaks to him at the end. Oh, and then there is the scene where her mom is trying to force her to marry Collins and her dad takes her side. Yes, I love this movie!
My youngest daughter is 11 years old. Her name is Katie. Her favorite is Mulan 2. She likes the scene where the guy Mulan is engaged to comes back after everyone thinks he is and they are all happy.

  26. Cheryl says:

    Cheryl, 38

My favorite chick flick…wow…there’s so many…but I guess I’d have to say Sleepless in Seattle.
When Sam is on the phone with the radio show, the Dr. asks him what was so special about his wife and his response:
Tell me what was so special about your wife?
“Well, how long is your program? Well, it was a million tiny little things that, when you added them all up, they meant we were suppose to be together… and I knew it. I knew it the very first time I touched her. It was like coming home… only to no home I’d ever known… I was just taking her hand to help her out of a car and I knew. It was like… magic.”

My 12 yr. old loves the story of Aladdin but she didn’t want me to be because she said, “I don’t want to sound like a baby!”

  27. Karol says:

age 42. My favorite chick flick is Pride and Prejudice with Kiera Knightley – my favorite scene and is when she walks out in the field at the end to meet up with Mr. Darby. My 15 year daughter loves the movie the Notebook and can’t tell you how many times she has watched it. Thanks for the chance to win. Fun reading about all the movies.

  28. Julie says:

Age 43. Sense & Sensibility – the scene where the younger sister is rescued from her despairing walk in the rain by the older Baron. He staggers into the house carrying Kate Winslet and the look on his face as they carry her off is so touching. Then later when he is checking on her (after she nearly dies) and she invites him to stay. Oh, I love it.

But a close runner up is What Every Girl Wants with Colin Firth and Amanda Beals(?) Love when he realizes that his “adviser” knew about the daughter all along and he responds by punching him. Then when he shows up at the wedding reception to make his apologies and his estranged wife says “You think I’ve waited 18 years for an apology?” The main thing I love about the movie is that the romance is about the girl and her father getting to know each other and learning to be true to who they are.

Can I also mention Beauty & the Beast? I cry every time Belle trades places with her father. I love how she falls to the floor and her face falls into her hands.

    Okay, I’ll be quiet now.

  29. Taryn Toles says:

My daughter Taryn (age 10) loves a scene from The Princess Bride. She just happened to be watching it as i was reading this post. Her favorite part happens when Buttercup and Wesley first kiss in the very beginning. It is the moment when she realizes he is in love with her, and she recognizes that she truly loves him back. She says, “farmboy, fetch me that pitcher”, and he replies in a whisper, “as you wish.” Then they kiss. Yes, this was an enlightening conversation!!

  30. Michelle says:

Well as an English teacher and Pride and Prejudice afficionado (hehe) I have to tell you that you are shorting yourself out of a real chick flick if the Keira Knightley version is the one you watch. Not true to the book which is the ultimate chick novel. The B & B production with Colin Firth is IT! My all-time favorite. Long but oh so worth it. Favorite scene – Elizabeth and her aunt and uncle visit Darcy’s home thinking he is away. He walks up on her in the garden after swimming in his undergarments (full long johns!) and they both are so surprised to see each other. He excuses himself quickly and she is mortified thinking he is blowing her off. She is ready to leave immediately and they are getting in the carriage and Darcy comes RUNNING out of the door and apologizing for receiving her in an ungentlemanlike and unpresentable manner. (Our daughters could learn much about how a young lady should be treated in this movie and our sons on how to be gentlemanlike) Anyway it is apparent he is gushing all over her and asks can he come visit them. Thus begins the ultimate love story of all time. Don’t cheat yourself – watch the B&B production.
My daughters favorite chick flick are all the ones in the Love Come Softly series.

  31. Katie R says:

In recent times, my favorite scene was near the end of FIREPROOF when Kirk Cameron came to his wife’s bedside and asked for forgiveness. To see the power of him hubling himself and allowing God’s Agape Love to come through, moved me to tears.

  32. Katie R says:

My daughter Abby’s favorite movie is PRINCESS, A MODERN FAIRYTALE. Her favorite scene in the movie is (in her own words) “when the princess is in her pink dress and she feeds the little deer a bottle. It’s really cute.”
    :)

  33. Angela Martin says:

    Angela 38

Several of my favorites have already been mentioned:
Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve Got Mail, While You Were Sleeping (I just love the scence when she is calling off the hospital wedding but explains to the whole family how she fell in love with them.)

I will like to submit a “not so chick flick” moment. At the end of the movie when the husband has come home to pack and go after his wife. She comes into the house to look for him. He says he was just coming to look for her and tries to apologize for all the madness he has caused. He asks if he has lost her. Her response is “How you could lose me? I have loved you even before I knew you. I have loved you since it was just the promise of you.” This reminds me that GOD has someone special we are suppose to be with. He created us for relationships and has an AMAZING love relationship promise just for us on Earth. Together, that couple will grow, love and bring glory to HIM.

  34. Nicole says:

I’m 15 and I think that Note-takers Bible is awesome! Thats so nice to be able to write notes you can acctually read and aren’t scribbled all over. My favorite Chick-flick right now is Confessions of a Shopaholic, its just a fun, pointless movie that I love watching when I’m stressed! My favorite line is when she tells the boy she likes that she thought Lisha was his girlfriend and he replies, “no, shes not my girlfriend…she’s not you.” =D

  35. Kristin says:

    Hi Vicki!

    Kristin, Age 40.

    Love this contest!

SO many favorite chick-flicks, but nothing makes me swoon (and cry) like the last scene between Jack and Rose in “Titanic”. The ship has sank, Jack and Rose have gone into the freezing water, and, with Jack’s help, Rose has managed to get herself atop a large piece of wood. Jack is still in the water, and knows that he will probably die soon. Rose feels like she may be dying too, so she tells Jack that she loves him. The exchange then goes like this:

Jack: Don’t you do that. Don’t you say your good-byes. Not yet. Do you understand me?…Listen, Rose. You’re gonna get out of here. You’re gonna go on, and you’re gonna make lots of babies, and you’re gonna watch ‘em grow. You’re gonna die an old, an old lady warm in her bed. Not here. Not this night. Not like this. Do you understand me?…Winning that ticket, Rose, was the best thing that ever happened to me. It brought me to you. And I’m thankful for that, Rose. I’m thankful. You must, you must, you must do me this honor. You must promise me that you’ll survive, that you won’t give up no matter what happens, no matter how hopeless. Promise me now, Rose, and never let go of that promise…Never let go.
Rose: I will never let go Jack. I will never let go.

I just love the fact that as Jack lays dying in the water, his chief emotion at that moment is GRATITUDE for having met and fallen in love with Rose. SWOOOOON! Getting a little teary just thinking about it!

    Take Care,
    Kristin

  36. Rachel says:

    Age:12(25 days til 13)

Favorite Chick Flick: A Walk to Remember

Favorite Line: “Promise me you won’t fall in love with me”

Favorite Magic Scene: The kiss between Cinderella and her Prince Charming. I knew from that day on my prince would come one day! That day is still far off(as you can see the age posted). The magic within about my prince never dies. As Cinderella said/sang”A dream is a wish your heart makes.”

  37. Stephanie says:

My favorite scene from a chick flick that gets me every time is from You’ve Got Mail…when Meg Ryan has given up on meeting the man of her dreams, and then sees Tom Hanks coming down the sidewalk and they finally get to meet each other. Their chemistry was perfect!

My 11 year old daughter, Claire’s favorite scene is from Beauty and the Beast, after the beast turns human again, he and Belle are in the ballroom dancing and they kiss.

  38. Stephanie says:

    Oops, I’m 35!

  39. Emily says:

    Hey, I’m Emily and age 16 (Woot-Woot!!)

Favorite Chick Flick…the Notebook!! The scene where the older couple dies together in the retirement home gets me every time. So sweet :)

  40. Pam Nance says:

I’m Pam and 47. ONE of my favorite chick flicks is Jerry Maguire. I LOVE that line where he realizes he has lost her – came back to the house to try to get her back, and it’s full of women. He starts talking to her, (Renee Zellweger), and she stops him and says, “You had me at hello”, then they kiss. That’s the way I feel about my husband – he had me at hello. Thanks for the opportunity to win, I just love your give-aways, and this one is AMAZING!

  41. Debbie, age 42 says:

I have to agree with Kristin. The scene in The Titanic when Jack is in the water with Rose. That scene was heartbreaking and wonderful at the same time.

I have 3 girls ages 9,7, & 4. I threw out a few movies and each of them said they loved “Enchanted”. Especially, the scene at the end when the Princess saves her Prince from the dragon-queen. Talk about Girl Power!

  42. Valerie says:

I am Valerie and I am 28. my daughter is 8, and absolutely hates boy girl moments in any movie. so I totally cannot help you there. HOWEVER, I absolutely LOVE the movie you have posted on your site. Pride and prejudice, is the best! No grossness, or immorality seen. So hard to come by in Hollywood. It truly is a treasure of “purity” in a very impure media. So Pride and Prejudice has my vote. Sorry my daughter could not be of help :(

  43. Valerie says:

oh I forgot my favorite moment in the movie in my above post….
the best part by far is when she is getting into the buggy and she steps up to get in and he quickly help her in with his hand, then he turns and walks about. It hits her in a quick confusing moment that his man, whom she thought disliked her, wanted to touch her hand. It was awesome. And of course, when he purposes, even though they fought afterwards, it’s still awesome.

  44. Robin and Sarah says:

I am 43 years old My favorite movie is Steel Magnolias . “My colors are blush & bashful I have chosen two shades of pink. One is much deeper than the other. Pink is my signature color”.

My daughter Sarah who is 10 likes this Quote from A Cindrella Story “Never let the fear of striking out, keep you from playing the game”
Please pick us, Please pick us,

  45. Karina says:

I love so many to list each one. But an all time favorite is “The Notebook” very romantic… and my daughter loves “Pride & Prejudice” I hope we win!!! Thanks!

  46. Christy says:

age 40 One of my favorite movies is The Lake House. I love the theme of waiting throughout the entire movie. Especially the end where she is crying at the mailbox just waiting to see if he recieved her message and then as he comes up and she says “You waited”.

  47. Sarah says:

Age 11 Favorite girl movies: Everafter. The best line is when the prince is apologizing at the end and Danielle says “say it again”. He thinks she means to apologize again but she interupts him and says “no, the part where you said my name”. Also I like What a Girl Wants. I like the part when her dad goes off and spends a day with her just having fun doing what she likes and the end where they dance.

  48. Rebecca says:

age 9 Favorite girl movies: Beauty and the Beast. My favorite part is when Belle and the Beast are outside and the birds are on his shoulder. I also like the end when they dance together. I also like Bolt. I like the end when Penny is caught in the fire and Bolt rushes in to save her.

  49. Debra says:

My daughter, Katherine, is 7 and her favorite movie is “The Little Mermaid”. Her favorite scene from the movie is the end when Ariel gets married and gives her dad a big hug then there’s a rainbow in the sky.

  50. Lucinda says:

Hi1 I am Lucinda and I am 32. My favorite chick flick is While you were sleeping with Sandra Bullock. I don’t know if I have a favorite part but I like the part at the wedding in the hospiatl chapel where she says I am in love with your son no not this one the other one.

My daughter, Allison, age 8 loves the princess diaries movies both of them. She especially loves the mattress surfing. We actually just celebrated her birthday with a princess diaries slumber party but alas no mattress suring.
