It’s hard to believe that the two munchkins in this clip are in college now. When this clip was taken, I was expecting my third child. I believe we refer to that as “the calm before the storm.” Actually, my daughter was more of the “storm-maker” (translation: “pistol, “ring-tailed tooter,” or in Dobson-lingo, “strong-willed child.”) I don’t think she was even sleeping though the night at the time this clip was taken and she was 2 1/2. I guess on the upside, I didn’t have to adjust to getting up in the middle of the night when the new baby came.

Anyway, I know I’ve said this before to you moms out there with little ones, but it’s worth repeating. I know you’re tired. I know it’s sheer chaos in your home. The noise level is high, your nerves are short and you wonder if you’ll ever get past the potty-training, sea of Cheerios on your kitchen floor, and never-ending sibling rivalry. I promise, you will…and it will happen in the very blink of an eye.

OK, so I don’t even know Vicki or her kids, but this made me cry. Because she is soooo right. A “blink of an eye” it is. And can this also be a reminder to get those video cameras out, wipe the dust off, charge the batteries and videotape those kiddos!!! Merry Christmas!!

THANK YOU! I so needed to read that today from another mom. I am exhausted and my house is sheer chaos with an 8 year old that is being homeschooled, a 3 year old boy that is potty training, a 6 month old that nurses all day long and has started waking in the night again, and a military husband that can’t always be here to help. In those moments it is hard to see how much I should treasure it and enjoy it because knowing it will end sounds kids nice and yet sad all at the same time.

Wow! I needed that simple reminder. My house is always a mess even though I feel as if I am picking it up all the time. I am potty training my 2 1/2 year old and my 5 1/2 year old wakes me up at least 3 times a night. I am so tired and cranky all the time. Maybe I need to chill out and lower my standards for a while and roll with the flow.

  5. And now I’m gonna cry. I have 5 children with 1 due in March. Our oldest is 5.5 years.

    Our house is C.H.A.O.S.

Thanks for the reminder. I needed it. But, naptime is over now and so I must go tend to my crazies.
